Ometepe Island is one of Nicaragua’s most unique attractions. Made up of two volcanoes, Ometepe Island is the biggest volcanic lake island in the world. Inhabited since 3,000 B.C. the Isla de Ometepe is home to unique archaeology, tropical flora and fauna and a rich culture. Hotels in Ometepe tend to be rustic, but there are exceptions. Hotel Villa Paraiso on Santo Domingo Beach is Ometepe Island’s oldest quality hotel and has recently been refurbished. The Totoco Lodge is located on the Maderas Volcano features rustic cabins with volcano/ lake views and eco-latrines. Although we can offer either one to our clients, our first choice Ometepe Island hotel is San Juan de la Isla for both quality and location.
