Zapatera Island is a national park and an important archaeological site. Although the Isla Zapatera’s large ceremonial statues have been moved to the protection of museums, the aura of mystery remains. Isla Zapatera National Park is Lake Nicaragua’s second largest island, an extinct volcanic cone that is almost entirely covered in tropical forest. When considering Zapatera Hotels the choices are clear, since there is only one. Thankfully the only hotel in Zapatera is a charming family owned lake front ecolodge with great community relations and a design consistent with the rural nature of the island.
