The Island of Ometepe is like no other island in the world, and not just because it is the biggest volcanic lake island on our planet. but rather its sensual shape, formed by two towering volcanoes wrapped in tropical forest. It seems to rise up out of Lake Nicaragua like two magma pyramids to the heavens. The island houses an extinct volcano and an active one and a very friendly rural population which lives off of plantain and sustenance farming. This adventure tour is for those who want to do some hiking or climbing on a volcano wrapped in cloud forest and also take advantage of beautiful country roads in the shadow of two volcanoes for some rural hikes, mountain biking and/or horseback riding. Lodging is on the long sandy beach of Playa Santo Domingo. Due to the distance and logistical nature of the arrival and departure from Isla de Ometepe we have this program built around the arrival night and night before departure at the best small hotel in Managua. This is flexible according to your flight plan, as some arrivals will be able to go direct to the island if desired, though the final night in country should be spent on the mainland to assure you do not miss your flight. This is a week long escape to a land of towering volcanoes, sandy beaches, warm lake water, cool breezes, smiling people and lush tropical forest and wildlife.

Ometepe Island Climbing and Hiking

DAY 01: MANAGUA
Airport greeting by our English speaking guide and private transportation for transfer to the Hotel Los Robles in Managua's new restaurant district.
DAY 02: MANAGUA - SAN JORGE - SANTO DOMINGO BEACH
Private land transfer with English speaking guide to dock at San Jorge for ferry to Ometepe Island. Dock greeting in 4x4 on Ometepe Island for transfer to Santo Domingo Beach. Afternoon at leisure on the beach. Lodging at San Juan de la Isla on Playa Santo Domingo.
DAY 03: OMETEPE ISLAND, MADERAS VOLCANO
Early departure in 4x4 for Maderas Volcano for either the summit climb (6-9 very tough and muddy hours) or a cascade hike (3-4 easy hours) with bag lunch during the hike. These are guided hikes with our English speaking guide. Afternoon return to Santo Domingo Beach for lodging at San Juan de la Isla.
DAY 04: OMETEPE ISLAND
Day to relax on the sandy lake beach or option to hike or mountain bike to Altagracia to see the pre-Colombian statues from 900 A.D. there. Lodging at Playa Santo Domingo in Hotel San Juan de la Isla.
DAY 05: OMETEPE ISLAND, CONCEPCIÓN VOLCANO
Private 4x4 transfer to the trail head of the active Concepción Volcano for guided hiking with our English speaking guide on the cone, to the summit for those in very good condition. This is a very tough 6-8 hour hike with heat, loose rocks and often high winds. Bag lunch on the cone. Since our hikes are private you can go as far as you wish at the pace you desire. Return to Santo Domingo for lodging at the exclusive San Juan de la Isla.
DAY 06: SANTO DOMINGO - SAN JORGE - MANAGUA
Morning swimming in warm Lake Nicaragua. Later morning transfer in 4x4 to dock at Moyogalpa for ferry to the mainland. Dock greeting in San Jorge and private transfer to Managua for lodging at Hotel Los Robles.
DAY 07: MANAGUA
Transfer to airport for flight home.
